APV Two Step Troubleshoot for Digital Presses

Alwan Print Verifier – Digital Press Assessment

Alwan Print Verifier is an extremely easy program to assess why your color is not correct with a maximum of two prints and two measurements, and with the optional Alwan Print Standardizer product (G7 Certified), it allows the operator to fix the bad color condition and force the device into G7 Conformance without any additional prints or measurements.

Benefits:

  • Works with any Output device
  • Works with any Printing Aim (Target Reference Condition) via ICC Profile or Measured Color Bar
  • Works with any Color Bar/Control Strip (dependent on assessment criteria)
  • Works with any Measurement Device (Direct support for most popular, indirect support for all others via CGATs, CxF, and SVF
  • Works with any Assessment Criteria, built in G7 Press/Proof, All ISO Criteria and customizable Normative and Informative fields

Part A.
Assess if your Device is matching the Reference Printing Aim condition:

1. Click on “Control Settings”

2. Click on “-” Symbol and delete all of the Default Settings, Then Click on the “+” symbol to make a new setting, Name it in a way that the operator knows instantly what the Press Condition is For example: Indigo1_Coated_G7

3. Double Click on the new Press Condition: Indigo1_Coated_G7 to open the settings editor. Click on TARGET Tab- Choose your Printing Aim(s)- Dependent onnumber of Substrates that you want to Assess/Track/Iterate Tone Reproduction Curves (TRC). If you are printing with Coated paper on Digital Press and need to match conventional, choose GRACoL profile (either GRACoL2006 if using M0 Measurements or GRACoL2013 if using M1 Measurements).

4. Choose your Instrument and Control Strip- Click onMeasurement Tab- Choose the supported instrument from the pop up menu, and choose the correct Control Strip pop up menu. The Two row strip provides more information for iterating the TRC curve of the device to ensure automatic G7 Conformance when used in conjunction with Alwan Print Standardizer. If only using for Assessment, choose the Single strip and add to the software by clicking on the “+” and importing the control strip definition file:

5. Click on the Assessment Tab: Click on the pop up menu and choose G7 Gray Scale (Production Verification)- this is the Normative Assessment criteria, then click on the “CMYK Primaries” check box, the “TVI” Check box and the “RGB Overprints” Check box for the Informative Assessment Criteria (Overall sheet will not Fail even if Informative criteria fails conformance).

6. Next, Click on the Reporting Tab and enter your press name “Indigo1” and paper name with condition “Coated_G7” in the respective fields. This data automatically embeds itself into the exported measurement file so Print Standardizer will know how to sort the data. Click OK to close the Settings Dialog

7. Select the Alwan Print Verifier Preferences (under Print Verifier X Pull Down Menu) and choose your default Instrument, then choose Reports to configure a folder in an easy to find location (Desktop) and name it “APV Scans.” This is the location where every measurement will automatically be saved, when using with Alwan Print Standardizer, the files will automatically be imported into Print Standardizer and a new TRC can be delivered automatically to the DFE for automatic correction capabilities. You are now ready to assess Color Conformance on your device by outputting a page with the control strip on it. Please build the control strip onto as many jobs as you can, or use the supplied Quality Control (QC) Page included in this kit. If device fails, and you want to assess if device is matching it’s profiled condition, go to the next page.

In order to Perform the Alwan Two Step Printing Assessment Procedure, you will need to configure Print Verifier to assess the device in it’s “Baseline” condition. The Baseline condition is the exact condition the device and substrate were in when it was originally profiled. You will need to access (in order to import) the profile that you are using for your output device to assess the device against its profiled condition.
