CARE Qualifier

This qualifier measures movement of paper in all quadrants of the sheet allowing you to figure out where the majority of movement is happening in order to fix it.

CARE Test Instructions:

Caution: The placement and the manner in which the targets are run are critical for the success of the CARE Test.

  1. On the test form place the 25 targets in rows and columns 5 across and 5 up and down, with about equal distance from each other. Targets should be within an inch of the gripper, tail and sides.
  2. The targets cannot be altered and need to in the right direction as well as must show on solid lines.
  3. The numbers on the target refer to the unit and not to the color. It is important that the unit 1 separation must be on the plate that goes on unit 1, the unit 2 separation on the plate that goes on unit 2, and so on.  (The units to be tested need to be in the sequence of the press. This means the target plate numbers must match the unit order of the test. So if you test a four color it is simple if you test a 6 color and use the last 4 units you gone have black (1) in unit 3 cyan (2) in unit 4 magenta (3) in unit 5 and yellow (4) in unit 6. The numbers are more important than the color as the computer does not know color so if you change from the usual color sequence the plate stays the same. so if you do a Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black you gone end up cyan being (1) magenta being (2) yellow being (3) and black being (4).)
  4. The units that are not being used should not be converted to spot but should not appear in any form on this test.

Example 1

Example Image below showing use of all 25 targets:

Tail edge with targets K21, K22, K23, K24 and K25
Center/Tail with targets K16, K17, K18, K19 and K20
Center with targets K11, K12, K13, K14 and K15
Center/Gripper with targets K6, K7, K8, K9 and K10
Gripper edge with targets K1, K2, K3, K4 and K5

Example 2

Example showing use of less targets. For best results use of all targets is recommended.

Tail edge with targets K21, K23 and K25
Gripper edge with targets K1, K2, K3, K4 and K5.
Center with targets K11, K13 and K15

Test variants:
  1. CARE Mini –  is 25 consecutive sheets reading 5 targets on the sheet . 2 (K1 & K5) x gripper row fare outside each, 2 (K12 & K14) x center row left and right of the middle, 1 (K23) x tail in the middle.
  2. CARE Basic – is 100 consecutive sheets reading 11 targets on the sheet, this will establish a standard deviation in 11 areas. 5 (K1, K2, K3, K4, K5) x gripper row all, 1 (K8) x between gripper and center row, 2 (K12 & K14) center row, 1 (K18) x between center and tail row, 2 (K22 & K24) tail row.
  3. CARE Full –  is 100 consecutive sheets reading 25 targets on the sheet, this will establish a standard deviation in all 25 areas.
  4. CARE Infeed –  is 100 consecutive sheets reading 2 targets on each sheet at gripper row both edges (K1 and K5). This test is used for presses/work control of multiple passes.
